Lazlo's Corner

Not long ago in this column I said that watching Stephen Colbert was helping me get through the times we are currently living in. I know he'd disagree, but along with The Daily Show and John Oliver, are closer to Edward R. Murrow than the current crop of news hosts.

So I was very disappointed to hear that CBS is pulling the plug on Colbert's show, and like so many others have to question the optics of cancelling the top late night show, that was just Emmy nominated again, and if this is a move to placate President Baby.

Only CBS insiders know the answer for sure.

I just hope that next year when the Late Show comes to an end, Stephen Colbert starts up his own way to do his show his way, be it via a Youtube like hosting service, or starting his own streaming service.

It may not be as profitable, but having the freedom to do and say what you want is liberating. As someone who spent 5 years as a puppet at a commercial radio station, being told what to play and what to say, starting BlowUpRadio.com almost 25 years ago renewed my love of music. Unlike Colbert, who would like be able to profit from starting his own thing, I make lose money doing this station, but having the control to play and say what I want is priceless.

Do you think it is likely any commercial radio station would allow me to play hours of local music for 25 years? Highly unlikely.
